Money, money, money
So, unsurprisingly, the fight for our deposit is now on. Our landlord is an utter liar. He's claiming the carpet was new when we moved in.
Well, we moved in a day after the revious tenants left, and they left letils scattered all over the carpet. So unless he is seriously suggesting the old carpet was taken up, the one installed, and lentils flung like wedding rice to commemorate the occasion...I'm not buying. While I don't mind paying towards a new carpet as I did indeed burn the old one, he needs to be realistic about what is paid.
He's also lying about the microwave that erupted in a great cluster of sparks shortly before we left. It's a Hinari MX320GMSL, and he claims it was put in new when we moved in in March 2008. Amazing, that, because it was discontinued in 2001. Straight from the manufacturer's mouth. Unless he bought it from the TARDIS, I think NOT.
It's exasperating that he is such an enormous liar and so blatantly trying to screw us. I don't mind paying for what I owe. But it needs to be a fair amount. Not whatever he thinks he can akes for. Luckily, the agent knows what he is like and is fighting our corner.
Our deposit is £1500. That's a HUGE amount of money for both myself and the Hack.
I feel very frustrated. I'm currently neutralising all my rage by picturing Chaucer from A Knight's Tale slapping my landlord with a gauntlet and crying you, sir, are a damn liar. Well, it's comforting me, at least.
Please, learn from my stupidity! If you think your landlord is remotely dodgy, don't do it.
